LGZ Celebrates 35 Years of Service to Howard County, MD

ZETA PHI BETA SORORITY INC. SERVES HOWARD COUNTY FOR 35 YEARS

Columbia, MD – Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Incorporated., a 96-year old women’s service organization, chartered the Lambda Gamma Zeta Chapter in Howard County on September 29^th, 1981. The members of Lambda Gamma Zeta Chapter have served the residents of Howard County with their founding principles of scholarship, service, sisterhood, and finer womanhood in mind.

In partnership with Howard County Public Schools, the W. Ruth Conway Scholarship provides deserving African American high school seniors with financial support as they attend four-year universities. Recently, the scholarship was expanded to provide African American women attending Howard Community College with financial support for tuition, books, and supplies to support their Women of Color initiatives.

Through the national service initiative, Z-HOPE (Zetas Helping Other People Excel), the chapter has supported various Howard County civic organizations such as The Domestic Violence Center, Community Action Council, The African American Roundtable, HopeWorks, and many others. Lambda Gamma Zeta Chapter has also supported national organizations including March of Dimes, National Multiple Sclerosis Society, and the American Cancer Society: Making Strides Against Breast Cancer program.

Through a strong foundation of sisterhood and finer womanhood, the women of Lambda Gamma Zeta Chapter have been trailblazers in Howard County.  They have established the annual A Pretty and Polished Affair which provides prom wear to hundreds of young ladies free of charge and the Breakfast on the Go program which offers a smart breakfast to students on the morning of their SAT exam.
