Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. was founded January 16, 1920, on the campus of Howard University Washington, DC by 5 co-eds.  The founders of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., Arizona Cleaver Stemons, Pearl Anna Neal, Myrtle Tyler Faithful, Viola Tyler Goings, and Fannie Pettie Watts, sought to create an organization that would hold academic achievement and service to the community in high esteem.  The founding principles of scholarship, service, sisterhood, and finer womanhood have sustained the founders' legacies.

The Sorority has 650 graduate and collegiate chapters located in all 50 states, Bahamas, Virgin Islands, West Africa, Germany, South Korea, Middle East, and Italy.

Zeta's trailblazing efforts are evident in being the first national panhellenic organization to establish a National Headquarters and form adult and youth auxiliaries. Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated is the first and only Greek letter sorority that is constitutionally bound to a fraternity, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.
